The Association operates by applying for funding to funding institutions for the realization of a particular renewable energy project to provide electricity access. The members of the organization will be the executors of the project by donating their time and efforts aimed at such realization. The funding obtained will cover the expenses of volunteers travelling to the site and of subsistence in the site of the project. Other executors could be from the industry sector that takes part in an application for funding together with ren-PEACE. The material necessary for the realization of the project will be partially covered by the obtained funding. In-kind contributions from the participating industry/partners are also foreseen. (Donors)
The basic idea is to build/develop/construct the project objectives in the most economical and sustainable way having as first priority the functionality of the equipment and the possibility to be repaired by the users themselves (Intermediate Technology, Fritz Schumacher “Small is Beautifull”, 1970). Tailored solutions “made from the very beginning (from scratch)”rather than highest technology equipment will be the preferred solutions but not limited to it.
Based on the above working strategy, Ren-PEACE sets its line of actions towards the attainment of its goals by the following steps:
1) Investigation and identification of target population in the world with the extreme needs as described in the “8 human basic needs”, for the realization of the renewable energy exploitation with the purposes of mitigating their needs.
2) Investigation and identification of possible project partners, donors, financing institutions and volunteers. Project partners should include the local people and should have mechanisms for the transfer of knowledge from the volunteers to the locals. Local Schools and/University involvement is highly desirable. It is also desirable the involvement of local non profit organizations if available.
3) Writing of a proposal for obtaining the funding for the realization of the project
4) Realization of the project in the specified site based on the voluntary action of its members. This voluntary action can include but is not limited to: project ideas, know-how, real work in the field at implementation stage.
5) Another possible form of operation of ren-PEACE would be as a volunteer’s bank for projects that have similar characteristics as the one described here. In some cases in which volunteers are needed in renewable energy realization projects for the same purposes, ren-PEACE can join with its volunteers force. A data base will be maintained for that purpose and be available for similar actions from sister organizations looking for specialized know-how or knowledge with the spirit of volunteer actions.
Every work accomplished will be published to inspire new volunteers and encourage similar actions. Publications will be done in the technical societies related to the knowledge involved in the execution of the specific renewable energy case.
